LAS VEGAS, USA – As part of Sony’s Consumer Electronics Showcase press conference, the multimedia giant revealed a collaboration with Crunchyroll to adapt Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima best-selling video game into an anime.

Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game inspired by Japanese folktales and mythology which features painterly visuals of Feudal Japan combined with thrilling action based combat. The multiplayer Legends DLC serves as the base for which the anime is built on, with Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini dedicated to bringing the game’s “bold and groundbreaking” world into an anime adaptation. The game is one of the best selling games for the Playstation 5, with the real life Tsushima Island reporting an influx of visitors wanting to see the game’s namesake inspiration.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, the studio behind series such as Demon Slayer and Sword Art Online. Helmed by Director Takanobu Mizuno, writer Gen Urobuchi is in charge of the storyline while Kamikaze Douga, a studio known for it’s distinctive offbeat and striking style will be charge of animation.

“Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first ever anime adaptation,” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions. “Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”

The series is set to premiere exclusively on the Crunchyroll streaming service in 2027.
