BANGKOK, THAILAND – Lamphun Warriors F.C., a top Thai League football team from Northern Thailand, has partnered with the Northern Thailand Breath Council (NTBC) to introduce a game-changing football jersey collection, The Air Pollution Jersey, aiming to raise awareness of Thailand’s air pollution crisis.

This jersey collection will replace Lamphun Warriors F.C.’s traditional white home jersey with one of six distinct colors, each visually representing the severity of PM2.5 air pollution based on the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels on match day.

These six colors represent different air quality levels:

🟢 Green (Good): Air quality is satisfactory and poses little or no risk
🟡 Yellow (Moderate): Sensitive individuals should avoid outdoor activity as they may experience respiratory symptoms.
🟠 Orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups): General public and sensitive individuals in particular are at risk to experience irritation and respiratory problems.
🔴 Red (Unhealthy): Increased likelihood of adverse effects and aggravation to the heart and lungs among general public.

🟣 Purple (VeryUnhealthy): General public will be noticeably affected. Sensitive groups should restrict outdoor activities.
🟤 Maroon (Hazardous): General public at high risk of experiencing strong irritations and adverse health effects. Should avoid outdoor activities.

The Air Pollution Jersey will be worn by Lamphun Warriors F.C. players, allowing both stadium audiences and TV viewers to witness the jersey and acknowledge the serious impact of the air pollution crisis in Northern Thailand and Southeast Asia.

Lamphun province, one of the hardest-hit areas in Northern Thailand, suffers from severe PM2.5 pollution annually, largely due to slash-and-burn agriculture, vehicle emissions, and poor air circulation. In light of this, The Air Pollution Jersey was created to highlight the vulnerability of footballers, who spend most of their time on the field. Since they are required to practice and compete outdoors, they are exposed to significantly higher levels of PM2.5 pollution than the general population. While the government has been campaigning for people to stay indoors and work from home, footballers face an almost impossible task of adhering to these practices. As most league matches follow a fixed schedule, postponing games due to air quality concerns is rarely an option. As a result, they must train and compete under hazardous PM2.5 conditions, exposing themselves to long-term health risks and impacting their athletic performance.

The jersey was launched during the pre-game ceremony between Lamphun Warriors F.C. and Buriram United F.C. A campaign banner was also displayed during the ceremony, urging both public and private sector authorities to address the PM2.5 issues impacting Northern Thai residents and footballers.

This initiative calls for decisive action to combat PM2.5 pollution through both short-term and long-term solutions. In the short term, rescheduling matches during peak pollution periods would allow footballers to compete safely. In the long term, pushing for the Clean Air Act to be passed and enforced this year, along with improved tracking and regulation of PM2.5 levels, would help create a safer environment for the future season. These measures will enable footballers to fully dedicate themselves to their team and fans without the constant concern of air pollution affecting their health and performance.
